WHO DO YOU FOLLOW?
Have you seen the trend online where influencers tune the attention towards themselves and their worldly advice and away from what originally called them to teach, preach or deliver messages.
Instead of being about elevation and truth, they spotlight themselves.
Instead of spotlighting the truth, they begin to spotlight their truth. It is one thing to spotlight a personal truth (personal experiences/beliefs/values), and it is another to spotlight a personal truth to shine a light on a greater truth (as I’m doing here).
This past year, I’ve watched four thought leaders fall into this snare. These are all people with great followings who people look up to for answers. These are all people who claim to be a representative of God. Yet, they want to be the idol. They end up showcasing the wrong thing. Their way, versus the way.
So, I ask, who do you follow?
A good teacher will take their message and point to the truth of life and the truth of what is within you. A fallen teacher will take a personal call to prophecy and turn it into profit-seeking. When teachers shift from “light within me” to “light on me”, it is time to pause allegiance.
Who do you follow?
In my 20 years as a life and leadership coach, I’ve learned that when people look up to someone else for the answers and for someone to emulate, they set aside what God is calling them to do, and they set aside who God is calling them to be.
I’m not saying do not follow. I’m saying discern if a teacher is truly pointing you toward the virtues within you, versus their path and their way. God created each of us unique. There is one way to God. Yet, how we live out that one way is unique to each of us.
Jesus called us to be free. Free of judgment, idolatry, and envy.
The Holy Spirit is found within. Within is where the fruits of the Spirit multiply.
Who do you follow?
TEACHERS I ask you:
Has light within me turned into light on me?
Does your approach best serve others, or are you in service to yourself?
Has your prophecy twisted into profit-seeking?
