Let's Talk Religion
Let’s talk religion.
Religion has been a catalyst for everything from trauma to the miraculous. From a path to God to a derailment from reality.
So what does God have to teach us about religion?
“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look afterorphans and widowsin their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.” -James 1:27
That is a far cry from what is happening. For many, religion has become their god. For others, it has become the reason they disavow God.
To me, as a former atheist, I was fascinated by all of the religious factions all claiming to provide the truth that leads to God. Yet they can’t all be right.
After studying and even practicing a variety of religious pathways in search of the truth (Buddhism, Taoism, Sufism, Zen, new age) I’ve learned this truth.
There is only one truth. There is only one true way. Anything else is wanting.
centuries, people have attempted to have a relationship with God, in their own way, according to the truth as they wish it to be. It makes sense we have as many religions as there are desires to shape reality around our own desires.
Beyond all that noise, God calls to us from beyond religion. God asks us to put down false idols. God invites us to form a direct, loving, provisional and personal relationship with Him. God calls us into service of each other. God is not about man-made religion and is all about relationships.
“Ask and it will be given to you;seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.8 For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds;and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
